Spicy avocado hummus

Ingredients

  • 1 can (540 mL/19 oz.) chick peas, drained and rinsed
  • 30 mL (2 tbsp.) lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 60 mL (¼ cup) tahini (sesame butter)
  • 60 mL (¼ cup) olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, peeled (use more or less, to taste)
  • 8 drops of Tabasco green pepper sauce
  • 7 mL (1½ tsp.) hot pepper flakes
  • 7 mL (1½ tsp.) ground cumin
  • 1 pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1 pinch of black pepper
  • 1 mL (¼ tsp.) salt
  • 2 ripe avocados, pitted, peeled and cut into 8 wedges
  • 1/4 medium red onion, chopped

Instructions

  • Mix together all ingredients (except avocados and red onion) in a food processor until almost completely smooth (leave a few little chunks).
  • Add the red onion and avocado and purée until thick and smooth.
  • If necessary, scrape the bottom of the bowl several times.
  • Transfer hummus to a bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
  • Refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with toasted pita, tortilla chips, or raw veggies.
