Ingredients

  • Crisco® Canola Oil, for deep frying

Cinnamon Sugar

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) sugar
  • 3/4 tsp (4 mL) ground cinnamon
  • Spiced Syrup
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) maple or table syrup
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) ground cinnamon

Batter

  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) milk
  • 1 medium apple, peeled, cored and chopped to make 1 cup (250 mL)
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) Crisco Canola Oil
  • 1 cup (250 mL) Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt

Instructions

  • Heat 2" to 3" (5 cm to 7 cm) of oil to 365°F (185ºC) in deep fryer or deep saucepan.
  • While oil heats, for cinnamon sugar, combine sugar and cinnamon in a re-sealable food storage bag.
  • For spiced syrup, mix syrup and cinnamon and heat in a microwave-safe bowl or on low heat in a saucepan.
  • Keep warm while preparing fritters.
  • For the batter, combine egg and milk in a large bowl. Stir in apple and oil.
  • Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in another bowl.
  • Add to egg mixture. Stir until just mixed.
  • Drop by tablespoonful, a few at a time, into hot oil.
  • Fry for about 4 minutes or until golden brown. Turn as needed for even browning.
  • Remove with slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels.
  • Gently shake fritters in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Place in a shallow serving bowl. Drizzle with warm syrup. Serve warm.
