Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 125g smoked bacon lardons
  • 2 cans haricot beans
  • 400g cherry tomatoes in juice
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp treacle
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp English mustard
  • 1 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 4 chunky slices of sourdough, to serve

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the onion and bacon for 3-4 minutes until crisp. Add the rest of the ingredients apart from the bread.
  • Simmer over a medium heat for 15 minutes until the sauce has reduced and season with black pepper. 
  • When the beans are almost cooked, grill the bread on a griddle pan. Serve the beans over the toast.
