Ingredients

  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) arugula
  • 15 mL (1 tablespoon) maple syrup
  • 45 g (1 1/2 oz) thinly sliced prosciutto or white ham
  • 1/2 pear
  • 175 mL (3/4 cup) grated old cheddar cheese
  • 10 mL (2 teaspoons) non-hydrogenated margarine
  • 4 slices country loaf, approx. 1.5 cm (1/2-inch) thick

Instructions

  • Spread margarine on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Arrange cheddar, pears and prosciutto on the unbuttered side of two slices.
  • Drizzle maple syrup on top and garnish with arugula.
  • Top each sandwich with the remaining slice of bread, buttered side up.
  • Press to flatten.
  • In a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, grill sandwiches for 2 minutes per side, or until bread is browned and the cheese is melted.
  • Press down on sandwich during cooking. 
  • Serve a half or whole sandwich per person.
