Ingredients

  • 750 g rump steak (beef) cut into strips
  • 1 tbs oil
  • 2 beef stock cubes
  • 2 tbs cornflour
  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 tsp Vegemite

Instructions

  • Brown steak in oil, add onion and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Transfer to a large saucepan, add stock cubes, Vegemite and enough water to cover mixture.
  • Simmer for 1½ hours or until tender.
  • Make a paste with the cornflour and a little water and add to meat mixture slowly.
  • Bring to the boil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Grease a pie dish with butter and line with a sheet of the puff pastry.
  • Add meat mixture and top with other sheet of pastry.
  • Brush pastry top with butter or milk. Make slits in top for steam to escape.
  • Bake at 180C until golden brown.
