Apple, Bacon and Spices Turkey Stuffing

Ingredients

  • 300 g ground pork
  • 250 g bacon, diced
  • 3 Cortland or Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 250 g small bread cubes (no crust)
  • 125 ml ( cup) unsweetened apple sauce
  • Turkey giblets (heart and liver), coarsely chopped
  • 5 ml (1 teaspoon) ground cinnamon
  • Ground clove, to taste
  • Freshly ground nutmeg, to taste
  • Fresh minced thyme or dried thyme, to taste
  • Ground savory, to taste
  • Freshly ground salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375F (190C).
  • Remove giblets from turkey cavity, season with salt and pepper and cook in oven. Cool, mince and set aside.
  • Place bread cubes and apple sauce in large bowl, mix thoroughly and set aside for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat a skillet over high heat, add bacon cubes and cook for two minutes. Drain and set aside to cool.
  • Add bacon, giblets and remaining ingredients to bread and apple sauce mix.
  • Mix stuffing thoroughly and place in greased oven pan. Cover with aluminum paper and place in oven.
  • Cook in oven for 30 minutes, remove aluminum paper and continue cooking for 30 more minutes.
