Ingredients

Brownies

  • 4 oz (125 g) unsweetened chocolate squares (4 squares)
  • 3/4 cup (175 mL) Crisco® Golden All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 cup (250 mL) sugar
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup (250 mL) Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
  • dash of salt

Topping

  • 12 oz (360g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup (175 mL) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350ºF (180ºC). Grease a 13" x 9" (3 L) baking pan and line with parchment paper.

Brownies:

  • Place unsweetened chocolate and shortening in large, microwave-safe bowl. Heat, on high, for 2 minutes.
  • Stir until mixture is smooth and chocolate is melted. Mix in sugar.
  • Add vanilla extract, then eggs one at a time, stirring well after each addition.
  • Combine flour and salt, a little at a time, stirring until uniform.
  • Spread in prepared pan. Bake for 15 minutes.

Topping:

  • Combine softened cream cheese, eggs, sugar and vanilla extract; beat at medium speed until well blended.
  • Pour evenly over top of brownie mixture. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes or until set.
  • Place on cooling rack. Run spatula around edge of pan to loosen. Cool completely on cooling rack. Cut into 32 bars.
