Ingredients

Scones

  • 1 ¾ cup (425 mL) Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
  • ½ cup (125 mL) brown sugar, packed
  • 4 tsp (20 mL) baking powder
  • 1/3 cup (75 mL) Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening, cold
  • ½ cup (125 mL) milk
  • 1 egg

Topping

  • 1 egg white
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) brown sugar, packed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425ºF (220ºC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine flour, sugar and baking powder in a large bowl. Stir well to combine.
  • Add cold shortening and cut into small pieces using a pastry blender, 2 knives or a fork.
  • Combine egg and milk. Add to dry ingredients making a soft dough. Knead gently and press dough into a ball. Then shape dough so that it is ¾” (2 cm) thick. Cut into 8 triangles and place on prepared sheet. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with brown sugar.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly golden.
  • Add 1 cup (250mL) raisins to the dough before shaping into a ball.
