It is not intended to transfer liquids over distance. Due to physics, they will always leak. To reduce leaking make sure the thief is assembled properly and when sampling liquid your thumb is firmly placed on the top hole. Do not make any sudden movement as that can cause a loss of pressure and loss of liquid. Use your mouth on the top hole to suck liquid to the top this avoids unnecessarily stirring the liquid you are trying to sample.
