After graduating summa cum laude from St. Mary’s University in Halifax with a B Comm in Finance and a BA in Economics, Breanda worked for Sobeys in various departments with her last role being assistant manager of Taxation.

During this time she attained her Certified General Accountant’s designation.

Since getting her CGA, she has worked in various management/accounting positions for government, public accounting firms, and as controller of a regional hotel chain and a new car dealership.

In her accounting practice she has served both large and small clients in a wide variety of sectors.

From personal taxes to businesses in manufacturing, wholesale, retail and services to charities and not-for-profit organizations.  

Brenda specializes in corporate income tax and financial statements as well as setting up accounting systems for small to mid sized businesses and ensuring they have proper controls in place to avoid theft and fraud.

Since his early 20’s Jim has owned or managed several small businesses.  

He started using Bedford accounting software in 1988,  Bedford was the precursor of Simply Accounting and is now called Sage 50.  

Since 2008 he has been doing bookkeeping for various clients using both Simply Accounting/Sage 50 and Quickbooks.  

He has also worked as a Microsoft Office support specialist and has a wealth of experience using Excel.

Jim handles most of the personal tax returns at Scotia Accounting, from the simplest individual return, to more complicated family situations to self employed clients running their own small business.
