LCBO

LCBO is an Ontario government enterprise and one of the world’s largest buyers and retailers of beverage alcohol. Through more than 630 retail stores, catalogues and special order services, it offers nearly 19,000 products annually to consumers and licensed establishments.

In fiscal 2011-12, LCBO sales topped $4.7 billion and it delivered a $1.63 billion dividend to the Ontario government, not including taxes. This revenue helps pay for health care, education and other important services.

LCBO staff trained in responsible service also challenged 6.3 million people in 2011-12 who appeared underage or intoxicated and refused service to more than 290,000, mostly for reasons of age. LCBO has also produced 13 advertising campaigns to prevent drinking and driving.

LCBO’s Quality Assurance also conducts 500,000 tests annually on more than 22,000 different products. This testing helps ensure all products sold by LCBO, winery outlets and beer stores meet federal health regulations and LCBO’s high standards for quality and taste.

Since 1990, LCBO has won more than 200 awards in customer service, innovative retailing, social responsibility, staff training, store design, marketing and corporate communications. An independent Corporate Reputation Study in 2010 by Leger Marketing placed LCBO 18 out of the top 100 companies in Ontario.
