Family-run and locally-owned, Alternative Landscaping Ltd. has grown to become a household name in landscaping and the Manitoba green industry throughout Westman.

The business was opened in 1998 by Chris and Karin Griffin with the goal of providing superior workmanship by people who care.

It’s a philosophy that has served the business well over the past 21 years.

Since the beginning, Alternative Landscaping has designed, built and maintained award winning residential and commercial projects throughout Brandon and the Westman area, stretching all the way into Saskatchewan.

In 2007, the operation expanded services to Clear Lake and all surrounding communities within three hours of Brandon.

It wasn’t long after the company extended geographically that they also grew and enhanced their menu of product and services.

The company introduced a complete line of professional retail landscape products in 2008 selling landscaping hardscape and softscaping products bulk to contractors and DIY clients, the concept of bringing supplies and expertise under one roof is what spurred the vision for the current operation and business model.

Just five years later in 2013 with an expansion to a brand new facility at 34th Street and Patricia Avenue,

Alternative Excavation and Alternative Choice Garden Centre were launched to accommodate the growing needs of Alternative clients, and offer Westman customers additional green industry products and services .

In 2016, Opportunity to expand to Brandon’s North hill arose and a second retail location was leased , giving the company the opportunity to expand their growing needs and operation while increasing the retail presence and service in retail gardening.

The most recent addition of services to the company was in 2017 when Heartland Fence, Deck & Rail was acquired, further expanding the company’s complimentary services to the green industry.

Today, Alternative Landscaping continues to flourish, with a second generation of the Griffin family now working in the business.
